US Supreme Court approves same-sex marriage

In a landmark decision (5-4 voting), the US Supreme Court voted in favor of same-sex marriage in the entire US.  All US States must now recognize same-sex marriages.

The timing is so poetic as June is Pride Month.

On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich, New York.  Feed up with constant raids on gay bars, gay patrons fought back.  This event became known as the Stonewall Riots and started the modern Gay Rights movement.  A year later, the first Gay Pride marches were organized at New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Manila will be holding its Gay Pride march this weekend to commemorate the Stonewall Riots.  The Manila Gay Pride march was the first in Asia organized in 1994.

US Embassy in Manila issues first 'fiance visa' to same-sex couple

This is good news for Filipinos who are married to their American partners.

From the Philippine Embassy website in the United States :

"On December 2, 2013, the United States Embassy in the Philippines issued its first fiancé visa to a same-sex couple. Although same-sex marriage is not yet recognized in the Philippines, gay Americans are now able to petition for family-based visas on behalf of their Filipino spouses, fiancés, and their children."

Uruguay recognizes same-sex union

Uruguay becomes the 2nd Latin American country to recognize gay marriage or same-sex union.

Argentina was the first to recognize gay marriage in Latin America.

So the big question is, would this be possible in the Philippines in the near future?

French Senate approves Same Sex Marriage

The French Senate finally approves a law allowing Same Sex Marriage or Gay marriage.  Weeks ago conservatives who were against the law clashed with police.

Do you think the Philippines is prepared for Gay marriage?  A Christian church in Baguio and Manila offers same-sex marriages but of course it is not legally recognized by government.
