Ms. Universe 2015 controversy

Perez Hilton, one of the judges in the Ms. Universe 2015 pageant said all of the judges voted for Ms. Philippines as the winner.

In a PodCast interview, Perez admitted that Ms. Colombia was the most beautiful among the contestant but she did not deserved to win the title.  

Being Ms. Universe is not all about the physical attributes.  It also has something to do with personality and how that person represent the Ms. Universe organization worldwide.

Ms. Colombia went in the competition expecting to win while Ms. Philippines fought her way to win the crown.  In short, Ms. Philippines earned it through sheer determination.

So what have we learned from this incident?  If you work hard, stay true to yourself and remain humble, you will get where you want to be in life.

Congrats once again to Pia Wurtzbach, our Ms. Universe 2015!

Knowing someone with HIV

I have been vocal on the issue of HIV AIDS online but has not personally known someone who has HIV AIDS.

For the purpose of hiding his identity and the situation he is in, I am changing the story a bit.

A few weeks ago, a friend approached me.  I knew him but we were not close friends or anything, just an acquaintance.  He started talking about stuff until he mentioned about HIV AIDS.  So I started to get suspicious.  I just listened and answered his questions until he finally admitted to me that he was HIV positive.

At first I was surprised and even skeptical.  I did not expect him to be gay.  He told me that he comes from a conservative family and had to hide his sexuality from them.

His being in a conservative family made his situation worst.  He could not tell his parents or siblings what was going on with his life.  And because of this, he felt that suicide was his only option.

I encouraged him to get counselling, talk to someone he trusts and join HIV AIDS groups in Cagayan de Oro.  These groups can help him in sorting out his emotions, his frustrations in life.

After the talk, I made him promise to join these groups and not think of suicide.  Living with HIV AIDS is not the end, it is actually a 2nd life worth living for.

HIV infection high in Cagayan de Oro

A few months ago, Cagayan de Oro City was mentioned as one of the 6 cities in the Philippines with high HIV infection.

This is really alarming.  For a medium sized city like Cagayan de Oro, this is devastating to the gay community in general.

I encourage everyone to get tested at the City Health Office, 2nd floor Laboratory (Monday to Friday).  The test is free.

I was tested last May 2015 and I am negative.  I am due for another test this December as advised by the City Health Office.  You are supposed to get tested every 6 or 7 months.

Again an appeal to all gay men to practice safer sex and use a condom!

HIV AIDS in Cagayan de Oro City

In the past years, there has been a sudden increase of HIV-AIDS cases in the Philippines, most of which was through male-to-male sex.  The Department of Health has already declared an AIDS epidemic outbreak in the Philippines including Cagayan de Oro City.

For the first time in decades, the HIV-AIDS case in Cagayan de Oro City has reached double digits.  Here are the full statistics in the past years:

2008 - 6 cases

2009 - 9 cases

2010 - 14 cases
 2011 - 27 cases
2012 - 52 cases
2013 - 88 cases

Based on the statistics, the average rate of the viral infection is almost at One Hundred (100%) percent.  If we follow this trend by 2014, the HIV-AIDS cases in the city will reach the 100 mark. 

If you are from Cagayan de Oro City, call the AIDS Hotline number (8822-area code) 72-1189.  This is a service by the City Health Office of Cagayan  de Oro.  They will entertain your questions without malice.  If they do insult or embarrass you in anyway, call the attention of the City Health Officers and report such incident.  These people are supposed to assist you in anyway.

There have been incidents of robbery or fraud in Cagayan de Oro involving gay people.

To avoid getting swindled or robbed, here are some advise or tips to follow :

1. When meeting someone online, check their Facebook account or if not see each other through webcam. Today, most people have Facebook or webcams, so if that person does not have one, that is a warning sign.

2. If the person you meet online wants to meet with you immediately in your hotel room or apartment, that is a warning sign. Meet this person first in a public area or through webcam. If you do not like the person you are meeting, you can make an excuse and leave the place or simply turn off the webcam.

3. If you bring these strangers to your hotel room or apartment/home, make sure the hotel has a CCTV camera and the guy should register or surrender an ID to the hotel receptionist. Better yet, leave your valuables with the hotel receptionist for safe keeping and instruct them never to give it to anyone except you. Take a photo of the guy using your phone and send it to friends. If at home, make sure someone is at home to assist you in case of emergencies.

4. Gay swindlers are now in social networking sites. If the profile photo is not the same with the actual person you meet, that is a warning sign. Make an excuse and leave immediately. Do not anymore entertain them.

5. If someone asks you for a night out with his so called "friends and cousins", that is a warning sign. You might end up paying all of the drinks and even more. Sometimes you go out in a date, only to find out that his "cousin" will join you later. If this happens, make an excuse and leave! These swindlers sometimes operate in pairs or groups.

6. When in a motel, if the guy insists that you take a shower first, this is a warning sign. This is an opportunity for these swindlers to take your belongings and even your clothes. If you shower, take your clothes with you inside the bathroom and lock the door.

7. If you meet someone new and that guy wants to have sex with you, ask that person, are you a call boy? Some of these guys would not tell you that they are call boys. After sex they would suddenly ask money from you, even though you have not talked about it.

8. If a gay swindler threatens you that he will create a scene or "mag eskandalo" if you do not give your belongings, you should reply....GO AHEAD! PAG ESKANDALO. These swindlers are just bluffing. They do not really want to create a scene or else they will get involved in it and their identity exposed.

9. Beware of "masseurs" advertising their massage services online. There have been complaints of theft and swindling. It is best to get recommendations from friends or a reliable website.

10. Cagayan de Oro has a high HIV AIDS infection rate in Northern Mindanao. Every year infection rate in the city doubles (100% increase). You should not only be concerned about your physical safety when dealing with these call boys but your health as well.

Internet connection resolved

Dumb me.  The problem with my Ultra on the Go (LTE) pocket WiFi was not technical but mobile signal.  My pocket WiFi has problems getting good mobile signal (miski full bar sa cellphone, di halos maka kuha ug signal ang Ultra) So I am planning to buy an external antenna to boost its signal capacity.

An issue I had with Ultra is the constant removal of the sim to load it up with internet credits.  You really have no choice since you can not use Ultra like a regular phone.

As for the internet speed, it is way better than the DSL fixed line.  Right now I am using Smart sim but my area does not have LTE signal which sucks.

The only downside for mobile internet compared to fixed line is the data cap.  I think for PLDT DSL fixed line at 999 Pesos per month, your data cap is around 30gb? compared to mobile which is around 5gb for the same rate.

So this means I might have to limit my internet access.  Not sure how this would affect the video uploads I make every week.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is planning to build all-gender restrooms in 41 Philippine airports.  This is part of their Gender Awareness Development program.

For a country that does not recognize same-sex unions or rights, this is a good step forward.

Gay for pay in bodybuilding

This is a very interesting topic.  I never knew that some professional bodybuilders "prostitute" themselves to fund their bodybuilding career.  Is it really that expensive to go pro bodybuilder?

748 new HIV cases in the Philippines

In May, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 748 new cases of HIV / AIDS in the Philippines.  Around 86% of the new cases were due to male who had sex with male (MSM).

Complicated Password

I was recently advised by my online account to change my password.  Sure, okay, why not.  Then it asked me at least 10 characters with combinations of numerical values, lower and upper case alphabets.  What the F!!  Are they really serious about this?

They used to ask for at least 6 or 8 characters.  Now it is getting longer and complicated.  This is ridiculous.
