Social Media Day

Today, the Philippines and the world is celebrating Social Media Day.  It is important for us Filipinos to celebrate this event as we are dubbed as the Social Media Capital in the world.  Ana ka daghan ang gagamit sa Twitter, Facebook, Blogs ug uban pa dinhi sa ato.

In past years, there has been a sudden increase of HIV-AIDS cases in the Philippines, most of which was through male-to-male sex.  The Department of Health has already declared an AIDS epidemic outbreak in the Philippines including Cagayan de Oro City.

For the first time in decades, the HIV-AIDS case in Cagayan de Oro City has reached double digits.  Here are the full statistics in the past years:

2008 - 6 cases

2009 - 9 cases

2010 - 14 cases
 2011 - 27 cases

Based on the statistics, the rate of the viral infection is at Fifty (50) percent annually.  If we follow this trend, in 2012, the HIV-AIDS cases in the city will reach close to 55 and by 2013 there will be over a 100 people in CDO with HIV-AIDS. 

If you are from Cagayan de Oro City, call the AIDS Hotline number (8822-area code) 72-1189.  This is a service by the City Health Office of Cagayan  de Oro.  They will entertain your questions without malice.  If they do insult or embarrass you in anyway, call the attention of the City Health Officers and report such incident.  These people are supposed to assist you in anyway.

Let me emphasize this, I am not a victim of these swindlers.  I am here to warn people of these gay swindlers in Cagayan de Oro who have been preying on helpless gay people in the city for several years now.  

Most if not all of call boys or male escorts in Cagayan de Oro are swindlers.  Some of these swindlers are not even call boys.  You can find them in social networking sites like Facebook and others.  They would first befriend you and after they gain your trust, they would then rob you of your valuables.

If you are the type of person who patronize call boys, my advise to you is to take photos of these guy and send the photos to your friends.  If you go somewhere else, bring another trusted friend with you.  Do not allow the guy to bring another person with him.   Mu uban daw iyang ig-agaw ug amigo.  That cousin or friend might be an accomplice to the swindler.  Go to motels with CCTV camera, so you can ask for the video afterwards if you get swindled.  Better yet, leave your valuables with the motel receptionist and get it afterwards.  Never bring these guys to your apartment or home unless you are sure that someone in your home can help you when you need assistance.

Until someone fights back and report them to the police, these gay swindlers will keep on victimizing gay people in the city.

Movie : Fast Five (Fast and Furious 5)

Happy 62nd City Charter Day Cagayan de Oro!

On June 15, 1950, the Municipality of Cagayan de Misamis was declared a city and its name changed to Cagayan de Oro.  The words "de Oro" were appended to name of Cagayan by the late Misamis Representative Emmanuel Pelaez (who later became Vice President of the Philippines) in honor of the gold mining activities around area.

The original San Agustin Cathedral of Cagayan built in 1845.  It was damaged in 1945 during World War II.   The present cathedral was built in its place after the war.

AIDS monument in Hong Kong

In my last visit to Hong Kong, I was finally able to roam around Tsim Sa Tsui area and visit Kowloon Park.  It was a nice park, well landscaped and clean.   Tucked in the park corner, I saw a familiar figure.  It was a sculpture done by Hong Kong artist Van Lau and was named the "Ribbon".  It was basically dedicated to the fight against HIV AIDS.

The ribbons were shaped in the small letter L ( ℓ ) which stands for "Love", the international symbol of love and concern to people with HIV AIDS.  The two ribbons intertwine to form a heart shape and binding us together in the fight against the spread of HIV AIDS around the world.

It is such a moving sculpture that I hope other cities around the world would do the same.  

Again, I appeal to everyone to join me in this fight against HIV AIDS and practice safe sex.
