New Blog Features

I am still trying to learn the features of this blog.  Hopefully I can add more to make this blog informative and interactive like the former DISCREETBAI.webs.com website.  Of course I plan to add a chat feature but still could not find the right one.  I used ShoutOut before in DISCREETBAI but it was a bit basic.   There is now a Reaction box at the bottom of the article.  You can now give your reactions if you Like or Unlike the posted article.   If you have suggestions or comments, I would like to hear from you.  Salamat sa inyong tanan.

Barangay Gwapo 2011 Winner

Finally found some information on who won the Barangay Gwapo 2011.  Well, I don't really care but for those who might be interested, the winner is Ahmad Papandayan of Barangay Lumbia.  He is a student of Xavier University.  Which reminds me, Happy Eid ul Fitr to all Muslims!

Hallo Club Entertainment Bar

Me and my friends recently went to Hallo Entertainment Bar, a gay strip club located in the former Vacation Hotel Building along Ramon Chaves corner Corrales Streets (near Zaxs and Bahay Kubo).

We were expecting a "special guest" of sorts since it was the fiesta season in Cagayan de Oro.  To our disappointment, there was none.  In fact the dancers were so disappointing that we did not stay long in the bar.  I am not sure if their main dancers were absent and they had to force their messenger and janitor to dance on the stage.

They have an entrance fee of 90 Pesos in which they would collect after you ordered a beer (90 Peso beer).  Take note if you give 100 Pesos, mostly likely they wont give back the change.

Miss Kagay-an (Ms. Cagayan de Oro)

Finally saw Ms. Kagay-an winner, Ms. Angel Carbajal during the Golden Float Parade.  She is a nursing student from Capitol University.  In all honesty she looks ordinary, in short Pinay na Pinay.  I now understand why someone was complaining about her in a blog.  It is it all brains and no beauty?

In fairness to Ms. Carbajal, once you get in the top 5, all are already considered winners.  You already possess the qualities of a Ms. Kagay-an.  All previous scores of the contestants are nullified and everything would now depend on the Question and Answer portion.  Answer the question right and you will be assured of the crown.  Answer it badly and you will end up like Venus Raj.

Kagay-an Festival, Cagayan de Oro City

So many activities around CDO with the City Fiesta fast approaching.  Last night was the coronation night of Ms. Kagay-an Festival.  Funny thing, some people were complaining of the winners.  Sore losers or sour grapping?

Tomorrow will be a busy day in the city with the Folkloric Dance Competition in Pelaez Sports Center, Pyro Festival in SM City and off course SM City Kagay-an Festival Sale which starts August 26 to 30.  I am not sure if I want to be in SM City around that time.  Last time they held the Pryo Festival, the traffic was so terrible that it took hours to get cars out of the mall vicinity after the event.

Anti-Piracy Software Drive in Cagayan de Oro

This week, the Pilipinas Anti-Piracy Team (PAPT) will be conducting inspections of establishments in Cagayan de Oro City, whether they are using legitimate or pirated softwares.  Though this does not really concern me since my laptop has a genuine Windows OS and I purchased my Norton software online.  There are several softwares online in which you can download and use for free.  Here are some as suggested by other websites.

1.  Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/) - is a Linux Operating System which can be downloaded and used for free.  I was quite surprised when Ubuntu-Linux was being sold in pirated software shops in Cagayan de Oro.  If it is free, I do not think you should be selling it.

2.  Avast (http://www.avast.com/index) - is an anti-virus software which is sufficient for the average user.  You can download the software for free in their website.

3.  AVG (http://www.freeavg.com/) - is another anti-virus software free for download and use.  They also have an anti-virus software for smartphones, of course for free.

4.  Libre Office (http://www.libreoffice.org/) - is an alternative to the MS Office software.  It has a complete set of softwares similar to the MS Office.  Libre Office can open existing MS Word, Powerpoint and even MS Excel files.

5.  Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org/) - is another alternative to MS Office software.  This is more popular and known than Libre Office.  Again Open Office has a complete set of softwares similar to the MS Office.  It can also open existing MS Word, MS Excel, Powerpoint and others.  You can even save the Open Office files to MS Office format.

If you have other suggestions, post your comment here.  Thanks!

July 2011 Nursing Board Exam Results

Congrats to Xavier University for taking 7th place in the recent July 2011 Nursing Board Exam with a passing rate of 88.24% (15 passed, 2 failed). Also congrats to Lourdes College for taking 6th place and a passing rate of 50.77%. National passing rate is 48%. How did other nursing schools in Cagayan de Oro City performed?  We have STI College Mindanao-CDO at 27.78%, Liceo de Cagayan University at 34.49%, Capitol University at 62.49% and Cagayan de Oro College at 32.46%.  I was quite surprised that Liceo de Cagayan got a dismal 34.49%.

Man of Himologan 2008

The Man of Himologan was a defunct male pageant in Cagayan de Oro City.  It was part of the Kagay-an Festival 2008 celebration.  There was an attempt to organize the event again in 2009 but it did not push through.  I guess they really had a difficult time looking for guys willing to be dressed up like Barbie-Ken.  Anyway, here are some photographs I took during the pageant night in Dynasty Court Hotel.  As usual I will be posting the photographs in series.

Mike, the Notorious Callboy of CDO

Finally was able to take a snapshot of the so called "Michael" or "Mike", a notorious callboy here in Cagayan de Oro.  Unfortunately, it was not a clear photo but enough to identify him.  He was in Limketkai Mall recently with a companion whom I presume is his accomplice.  If you have a clearer photo, please upload it to Tinypic.com and share the link.

For now, let us just gather more information and photographs of these people.  They do not know we are monitoring them and it is an advantage for us.  Be patient guys, just be patient.

Kagay-an Festival 2011

Kagay-an Festival is a month long event in celebration of Cagayan de Oro City's Patron, Saint Augustine of Hippo (August 28).  This week alone, there are several events going on around the city.  I was quite surprised that the Kumbira Culinary Show, which is now ongoing in Limketkai Mall was not included in one of the "core events" of the festival.  By the way, August 29 (Monday) and August 30 (Tuesday) are declared holidays.  Click on the photograph to see the official list of events for the Kagay-an Festival.

Barangay Gwapo 2011

ABS-CBN Kapamilya organized the search for Barangay Gwapo 2011 in Cagayan de Oro City.  These guys represent the different Barangays in the city.  Sorry gals and gays, no swimsuit event.  The pageant is more on the personality aspect compared to defunct male pageant Man of Himologan.  The finals night will be held in Capitol University Gym on August 20, 2011.  Admission is free.  You can check out their website at http://barangaygwapo.weebly.com

Online Identity Theft

Sometimes we are quite open with our personal information online.  We share our photographs, emails, and even personal numbers to anyone without thinking of consequences.

Online identity theft is for real.  Gone are the days when thieves used knives or guns to steal something from us.  They can now easily do this online.  The most common item being stolen are photographs.  These are usually taken from social networking sites like Facebook, Friendster and photographs shared with strangers.  Take for instance the case of Aaron Villaflor, an ABS-CBN talent.  His photographs were copied and used by another person in Facebook.(http://beonline.com.ph/breakingNewsArticle.php?aid=2465&pageid=2).

We should be careful of our personal photographs and information.  Check the settings of your social networking account.  Do not allow strangers to see your personal information or photographs.  Avoid accepting strangers to your social networking account.  If possible separate your personal account for your family and friends from your acquaintances.  Place watermarks over your photograph.  And lastly, ask that person to chat with you online with a webcam.  If that guy refuses and makes so much excuses, be careful.  He might not be who you think he is.

The Philippine Dragon Boat Team Wins GOLD in the US

Congratulations to the Philippine Dragon Boat Team for winning the Gold in the Premier 1,000m event in Tampa Bay, Florida.  They also won Gold in the previous years despite the lack of monetary support from the Government.  Their story was featured in ABS-CBN and was heart breaking.  They did not even had enough funds for their training, food and equipment.  These people are the genuine AZKALS.  Filipinos who persevere despite the odds against them.

Once again congrats to the Philippine Dragon Boat Team!

HIV tainted blood donations double

According to the Department of Health (DOH), blood donations with HIV have doubled this year.  I would not be surprised at all.  DOH has declared last year a HIV-AIDS epidemic outbreak in the Philippines.  In Cagayan de Oro City alone, HIV-AIDS cases double every year.  By 2015, there will be around 100 HIV-AIDS cases in Cagayan de Oro City.
