US Supreme Court approves same-sex marriage

In a landmark decision (5-4 voting), the US Supreme Court voted in favor of same-sex marriage in the entire US.  All US States must now recognize same-sex marriages.

The timing is so poetic as June is Pride Month.

On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich, New York.  Feed up with constant raids on gay bars, gay patrons fought back.  This event became known as the Stonewall Riots and started the modern Gay Rights movement.  A year later, the first Gay Pride marches were organized at New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Manila will be holding its Gay Pride march this weekend to commemorate the Stonewall Riots.  The Manila Gay Pride march was the first in Asia organized in 1994.
