UN urges Philippines to legalize prostitution

In a United Nations report, the international body encouraged the Philippines to decriminalize prostitution.  This is to give prostitutes and establishments engaged in such services some protection from the government.  They would be able to gain access to health insurance (Philhealth), social security and other benefits denied from them.  This will also encourage more sex workers to get checked and avail of services to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases.

Right now, the Philippines considers prostitution as illegal however the law is not religiously followed.  It seems people just tolerate it until something goes wrong.
