Congrats to the Philippine Volcanoes Rugby Team

The Philippine Volcanoes won the bronze medal in the HSBC Asian Rugby Sevens Series Singapore Sevens last Saturday.  This is a milestone for the Philippines national rugby team.  Rugby is a relatively new sport in the Philippines as it is barely played or known around the country.

Hopefully interest in rugby would spread around the country and produce more locally trained talent.  As of the moment, all of the members of the Philippine Volcanoes are half breed Filipinos or mestizos.

Last year, people got to know more about the rugby team not because of the sport but due to the controversial Bench underwear billboards that showed most of the rugby team in sexy underwear.

Philippine Volcanoes Bench Pictorial : last series

These are the Bench Underwear billboard ads of the Philippine Volcanoes Rugby Team.  It was taken down due to complaints from certain concerned groups mostly men who felt it was not appropriate for the public.  This also raised the question, WHY underwear billboard ads of women were not taken down before?  Why target this ad specifically?  I guess someone got insecure of their bodies upon seeing these billboard ads  LOL  Who would'nt....look at these guys!!  Photographs were taken from GMA Seven Blog

National Rugby Team - Philippine Volcanoes

The Philippine Volcanoes became popular not because of their sport but for their controversial Bench Underwear billboard ad in Manila.  They posed in their undies to raise awareness of their sport.and they got what they wanted.  Again, kung dili lang mga tisoy, dili giyud panumbalingon sa mga tao.  A good example of this is the Philippine Dragon Boat Team.  Despite winning gold medals and breaking records abroad, no one would care to notice them because all of them are of pure Pinoy blood.  I just hope Filipinos would recognize a sport not because of the athletes physical appearance but because of the talent.  I will post more photos of these guys next week.
