In past years, there has been a
sudden increase of HIV-AIDS cases in the Philippines, most of which was through
male-to-male sex. The Department of Health has already declared an AIDS
epidemic outbreak in the Philippines including Cagayan de Oro City.
For the first time in decades, the
HIV-AIDS case in Cagayan de Oro City has reached double digits. Here are
the full statistics in the past years :
2008
- 6 cases
2009
- 9 cases
2010
- 14 cases
Based on the statistics, the rate of the viral infection is
at Fifty (50) percent annually. If we follow this trend, this year alone
2011, the HIV-AIDS case in the city will reach close to 30 and by 2015 around
100 people will be infected by the virus.

call the AIDS Hotline number (8822-area code) 72-1189. This is a service
by the City Health Office of Cagayan de Oro. They will entertain
your questions without malice. If they do insult or embarrass you in
anyway, call the attention of the City Health Officers and report such
incident. These people are supposed to assist you in anyway.
